" THE SPACE "
In this 16-page type design book, I drew inspiration from Ulises Carrión’s essay "The New Art of Making Books," particularly the section titled "The Space."
This project explores the dynamic relationship between typography and space, taking cues from Carrión's radical ideas about books being sequences of spaces rather than mere containers of text.
The book's format is in black and white, maintaining a minimalist aesthetic that mirrors the purity of the space within which typography operates. I designed with a booklet printing order, which goes by 16 - 1 - 2 - 15 - 14 - 3 - 4 - 13 - 12 - 5 - 6 - 11 - 10 - 7 - 8 -9.
The design aims to exploit the book's physicality, enhancing the reader's spatial interactions with the type. Each spread juxtaposes meticulously arranged typographic compositions with selected quotes from "The Space," such as "The Space is the Music of the Unsung Poetry" and "A Book is a Volume in the Space," emphasizing the spatial dimensions of the written word.
Through the careful manipulation of white space, type size, and page layout, the book embodies Carrión's vision of books as autonomous art forms. The result is a poetic reflection on the spatial possibilities of typography, where each page becomes an integral element of a broader typographic structure, offering an experience that transcends traditional reading.
" HEAL "
In this series of type design posters, the lyrics of "Heal" from the movie "Tangled" are artistically deconstructed into their most elemental forms—ligatures, bowls, and counters.
Each poster utilizes a monochromatic scheme, pulsing with shades of purple and gray, where the abstracted letterforms dance and merge to evoke the song’s emotive cadence. The interplay of negative and positive spaces creates a visual rhythm that mirrors the song’s own melodic flow. This typographic interpretation transcends mere text, inviting the viewer to feel the music through form and void, giving new life to the song's underlying message of rejuvenation and transformation.
